TTD Mission Statement

What is the SPI Thermoset Technology Division?

The Thermoset Technology Division (TTD) of The Society of the Plastics Industry, Inc. (SPI) was established in 1957. It is the ONLY organization dedicated solely to serving the needs and interests of thermoset formulators. Currently, more than 100 member representatives participate from around the world.

Who belongs to the SPI TTD?

Member companies include raw material suppliers, thermoset formulators, equipment manufacturers, consulting firms and academic institutions. Individual participants from these companies range from presidents to production managers to formulation specialists.

Which industries does SPI TTD serve?

Membership reflects the multitude of end uses for formulated thermoset products. These include adhesives, coatings, civil engineering applications, electrical laminates, composites, tooling, castings and moldings.

How does SPI/TTD participation benefit you and your company?

  • Regulatory updates affecting both material suppliers and formulators
  • Discounted attendance costs at the semi-annual conferences, which include:
    • approximately 10 new technology papers
    • product stewardship updates
    • pertinent business and market topics
    • interaction with suppliers and other TTD members to discuss issues of interest to the market in general, overseen by the trade association that represents the thermoset formulators concerns and interests.
  • Discounts on literature and brochures available from the TTD
  • Direct contacts with others in the industry who can provide information on issues that are a concern in your business.
  • Voluntary participation in the TTD Product Stewardship Program, which can enable you to meet your internal product stewardship requirements for your own employees and customers.

What are the eligibility requirements for SPI TTD?

In order to become a member of the TTD, a company must be actively engaged as a thermoset formulator or a supplier to thermoset formulators and must be a member of SPI.

Can I attend TTD conferences and obtain certain brochures without becoming an TTD member?

Yes, but the cost of these activities and available information is mainly covered by members of the TTD, so non-members pay a higher rate for access to these benefits. Also note that only members are listed on the TTD web site.

What is the cost of membership?

The new SPI dues structure dramatically changed the cost to join. Some of the major changes that occurred at the SPI included:

  • Delegated authority, responsibility and control of programs to divisions
  • Provided a mechanism to allocate dues.
  • Transferred certain expenses to divisions historically administered by SPI core funds.
  • Restructured core processor and compounder dues schedules.

Here is an estimate of the cost to join SPI under the old and new dues structures:

Case 1: Formulator with sales of $8MM/year and resin costs of $3MM/year
Old Dues Structure New Dues Structure
$4,796.00 $3,054.00
